Michael Solis is an award-nominated author specializing in science fiction, fantasy and creative nonfiction. His debut YA sci-fi novel, “Deficient,” recently received two honorable mentions for Best Debut Novel and Best Young Adult Novel from the International Latino Book Awards. He is currently working on several new projects.

For the past 16 years, Solis’s career as a humanitarian and development worker has taken him across Latin America, Asia, Africa and Europe. Based in Geneva, Switzerland, he serves as a localization expert with the International Organization for Migration and is committed to a sector-level transformation that shifts power and resources to local civil society actors.

Solis is a member of the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers Association, the International Society of Latino Authors and the Publishing Triangle. He holds master’s degrees in human rights law and gender studies. He is a US-Ireland Alliance George-Mitchell Scholar (’10) and Luce Scholar (’08).
