Rabbi, Hillel Director, Educator

Prior to returning to Princeton, Rabbi Gil Steinlauf founded and served as director of the Hineni Fellowship for LGBTQ+ Jewish Leadership, a program that trains, educates and inspires up-and-coming Jewish leaders from the LGBTQ+ community to serve in leadership roles throughout the Jewish world. He served for 10 years at Adas Israel Congregation in Washington, D.C., where he was the first senior rabbi of a large, historic, conservative congregation to come out as openly gay. Steinlauf had previously been at Congregation Tifereth Israel in Columbus, Ohio, and at Temple Israel in Ridgewood, New Jersey, as well as at Kol Shalom Congregation in Rockville, Maryland. He is the proud father of three adult children, and he currently splits his time between Princeton and Philadelphia with his partner, Bob Alig.
