Hayley Gorenberg co-chairs the LGBTQ Rights Committee of the New York City Bar Association. Earlier in her career, she worked as general counsel and deputy legal director of the national civil rights organization Lambda Legal, where she litigated landmark cases advancing the rights of LGBTQ+ people; legal director of New York Lawyers for the Public Interest, advancing the organization’s community-driven litigation and advocacy; and HIV advocacy coordinator at Legal Services for New York City, running a citywide task force and creating legal advocacy campaigns and trainings to achieve high-impact results for low-income New Yorkers living with HIV. Gorenberg has been named OUTLaw Alumna of the Year by New York University School of Law, received a Forger Award from the American Bar Association for “sustained excellence” advocating for the rights of people living with HIV and received the New York City Bar Association’s Arthur S. Leonard Award for outstanding advocacy work for the LGBT community. She has served as a Wasserstein Public Interest Fellow at Harvard, was selected to serve on the inaugural steering committee of the New York State Council on Women and Girls, and serves on the executive committee of Friends of Princeton in Civic Service, as well as the Program in Gender and Sexuality Studies’ advisory council. Before becoming a civil rights lawyer, Gorenberg was a professional journalist.
